Almost every countertop in almost every kitchen has canisters. Sometimes they are shaped like giant fruit and sometimes they have weird flowers painted on them. You store your flour, sugar, tea and coffee in them typically. I like canisters. I have two sets actually. I keep flour, rice, tea, sugar, coffee, brown sugar, and cornstarch in them. I have a problem with a lot of these canister sets, however and I’d like to see if anybody else get as annoyed with it as I do.

These canisters are rarely big enough! The set above is great. I got it from Target a few years ago and the biggest of the canisters is a great size! You see, when I am baking and I need flour or sugar, I would like to be able to simply dip my measuring cup into the canister in order to retrieve the contents. A lot of times, these canisters are too small to accomodate a measuring cup which drives me insane. The biggest of these copper canisters is plenty big enough to take a 1 cup measuring cup, and it has made my life that much simpler. However, my sugar canister (the biggest of the green set) is still too small.
Why are these canisters made so small? I realize that countertop real estate is at a premium in most homes, but these things usually get put in a corner anyhow. Why can’t they be made just a tiny bit bigger in order to make product retrieval that much easier. It drives me bonkers!
Currently I am looking to replace my green set with a set that is big enough to suit my needs. I would like for the next set to be something that I don’t repeatedly consider slamming into a wall. I’ve looked all over the internet. I’ve looked at the swanky places like Macy’s, Williams Sonoma, and Sur La Table, but the best place for canisters is actually Target. Go figure.
Below are some canisters that I’d like to consider for purchase. I’m welcoming any input. I really love these designs, but I’m concerned about the size of a couple. They need to be BIG!

I LOVE these! I love the whole apothecary look. And, it appears that the size will be adequate! These canbe found at Target, Here.

I also really like these but I’m pretty sure they are too small. See them at Target Here.

These I love way too much to not get. I’m thinking that these would be great to hold pasta! See them Here.

Aren’t those gorgeous? These came from Williams Sonoma. I just like looking at them, but the price makes me cry a little. See them Here.
Does anybody else go nuts over those tiny canisters? Do you bypass the whole canister thing altogether?
