I'm not at all interested in agreeing with you, nor was I trying to convince you to agree with me. Just trying to explain my side.

WOW this subject went to hell in a hand basket. I hate it when one person has to ruin a nice website. Bitter, everyone is entitled to an opinion. In your love for Bourdain, you've missed the point that Somer is actually a fan. She wasn't being critical of his show, she just simply stated that on his show (no books were ever mentioned, by the way), he comes off as kind of snobby. Perhaps in real life he's a great guy. However, Somer was commenting on how he comes across on TV.
I am with Somer on Sandra Lee. What one person thinks about the taste of food is very much different than what another person thinks.
Good for you, Bitter, for having an opinion about everything. Thank you for sharing your opinion, and I am sure other people will agree with you. However, your opinion is not written in stone, and the old adage about opinions and how everyone has one is still true today.
So please, can we agree to disagree and put this subject to rest. I like having a place to read about food and get some tips from people without fearing that whatever anyone says will be disputed and argued. I like how you can state your opinion, but please don't be rude.

Obviously there's no talking to you sensibly about this. You're indisputably right in YOUR OPINION. I've said my peace and you've said yours. New subject, please.

I only need to try a few to know that she sucks. And it's not just my opinion.

You mean Bourdain has a lousy attitude IN YOUR OPINION. He's not rude towards people, quite the opposite. And if you've read his books you'd realize that he will eat the humblest of meatloaf if someone serves it to him. His attitude is towards high obesity rates in the US and the pre-packaged, processed foods a lot of us eat. It's stupid to base your opinion on him just by watching his show. Try reading his books or his interviews as well

Thank you for constantly reminding me that I'm entitled to my opinion :)

As far as my opinion of Sandra Lee, I'll leave that one alone. What one considers to be good food or not is of course subjective. If you and your friends insist that she sucks, that's your taste. There's no need to attack someone who likes her recipes (although I'll admit I've only tried a handful, as you yourself have as well).

As far as Bourdain, he does have a lousy attitude. Did I say that I held it against him? No, I did not. I said it was part of his personality and it is. It's something that he likes to highlight about himself, with his "snarky" comments. It's an endearing quality.

And his dislike of America I've gotten from his shows. I've seen all of his shows more than once (I'm a fan) and I've seen the ones where he continuously praises the metropolitan areas and expresses regret ON CAMERA about his avoiding certain areas of the U.S. because of a prejudice against certain regions of this country. One particular episode where I gather my conclusion about his attitude towards the U.S. is the one where viewers were asked to recommend places for him to visit and he was looking through viewer submitted tapes. He made some comments about never wanting to visit the midwest and other areas. He'd just rather see the rest of the world and possibly more exotic places rather than the Midwest. I made a general comment.

I hope this clears things up.

I was on your side until you said that Sandra Lee made awesome food. You are entitled to your opinion, but my opinion is that you're way off the beam here. Sandra's food is not good. I've tried a couple of her dishes, and I have friends who've made several, and the general consensus is that..........she sucks.

And what's wrong with Bourdain's personality? He doesn't attacke US cuisine - have you watched his shows that take place in US cities? Cleveland, Chicago, Baltimore, DC, the US Southwest, NYC of course. But he loves HOMEMADE food made from FRESH ingredients. He's not a fan of TGIF or McD's or The Olive Garden, but he's got a great respect for anyone, regardless of nationality or origin, who cooks good food and is adventurous in the process. You're entitled to your opinion, but I think you are dead wrong.
